WELCOME TO THE
ARIZONA TERRITORIES
VINTAGE BASE BALL LEAGUE
Welcome to the official website
of the first and only vintage base ball league in Arizona,
the Arizona Territories Vintage Base Ball League!
WHAT'S NEW
Vintage Base Ball is coming to a town near you …
ATVBBL is proud to announce the addition of the Arizona Stars and
Stripes. The Arizona Stars and Stripes has been developed as an
education travel team. It is an All-League team that has player
representation from all ATVBBL teams. The primary focus of the
Arizona Stars and Stripes is to spread the excitement and love for
Vintage Base Ball throughout the great state of Arizona. We have
partnered with non-profit organizations, Chamber of Commerce and
Museums throughout Arizona to bring the richness of 19th century
base ball in the Arizona Territories to life. For a full listing of
upcoming events, please visit our schedule. For information on
bringing vintage base ball to a town near you, please contact
Forrest Kuhn or Lance Busch.
Vintage Base Ball in Tucson????
We would also like to announce our newly
developing team in the Tucson area. If you live in the Tucson area
and would like to find out more information about joining a team,
please contact Lon Berg or call 520-784-1436. If you are interested
in developing a new team in the Tucson area, please contact Forrest
Kuhn or Lance Busch.
The Tolleson Pistoleros have barnstormed their way into town…
Former Glendale Gopher has made his way out West to the township of
Tolleson. He has rounded up a posse and will be back guns blazing
next season as the Tolleson Pistoleros. If you are interested
in more information about the Pistoleros or joining his
posse, please contact Aaron Casem.
ABOUT US
Vintage base ball is a sport that attempts to
recreate baseball as it was played in its formative years. From
using the actual rules from the early years to wearing vintage-style
uniforms, and using equipment made to specifications of the era,
vintage base ball is part sport, part historical re-enactment.
The ATVBBL attempts to recreate the game as is was played in 1860.
This means using rules such as underhand pitching, balls caught on
one bounce are outs, foul balls are not strikes, no infield fly
rule, and no overrunning first base. It also means that we play a
gentlemanly game - no cursing, no spitting, no showboating, always
address the umpire as "sir", and applaud your opponents when they
make a good play.
Playing in the ATVBBL is all about HAVING FUN. Yes, we're all
competitive and want to win, but we're not there to pummel our
opponents, or to prove how far we can hit the ball, or how fast we
can pitch. We're there to have a good time, play a good game of base
ball, and enjoy the camaraderie of not only our teammates, but our
opponents as well. The ATVBBL family is a small (but growing) one,
and you'll find that after a few games, you get to know players on
other teams just as much as those on your own team.
WE'RE ALWAYS LOOKING FOR NEW PLAYERS!
If you'd like to play in the ATVBBL, it's very easy to join! We
welcome players of any age, gender, experience, and ability. We have
players from teenagers to seniors. We have players who have played
some minor league ball to players with just beer league experience,
to guys who hadn't played a single inning of baseball until joining
the league. Absolutely everyone is welcome. Well, almost everyone.
If you want a league where you can just blast home run after home
run, yell and scream, humiliate your opponents, and show off how
good you are, this isn't the league for you.
For everyone else, all you need to join is the ability to have fun.
Have a look around this website, and if you'd like to play, find a
team near you. We currently have five teams from the Phoenix metro
area. Feel free to contact the team captains, and they can fill you
in on the details on how to join the team. You could also check out
our schedule, just show up to the next ATVBBL game, and talk to some
of our players.
We're also looking to expand the league. We'd like to add a few more
teams here in the valley, and eventually, add other teams from
around the state. If you'd like to form your own team to play in the
ATVBBL, please contact
Forrest Kuhn, and he will go through the process with you, and
let you know what you'll need to start your own vintage base ball
club.
Thank you for stopping by our website, and we hope you enjoy your
visit here. We'll be updating this site regularly as our 2010 Summer
gets underway, so check back for new content, including game reports
and photos. If you have any questions, feel free to contact anyone
with the league, and we'll be happy to answer your questions. If you
have questions or problems with the website, please contact the
webmaster.
